Is the disposable nonwoven face mask sterile?

Jan 24, 2026 Leave a message

Sterility depends on the mask type. Surgical-grade disposable nonwoven masks undergo strict ethylene oxide (EO) sterilization and are sealed in airtight packaging to ensure sterility for clinical use. Ordinary daily protective masks are typically non-sterile, designed mainly to block large particles like dust and droplets. For surgical procedures, epidemic prevention, or high-risk environments, always select masks labeled "sterile" and check for intact packaging and valid expiration dates-any damage or expiration may compromise sterility. Sterile masks prevent the wearer's microorganisms from spreading to the environment, while non-sterile ones focus on protecting the wearer from external contaminants. Never use masks with damaged packaging, as their sterility barrier is compromised.
