What Types of Wounds Are Best Suited for Alginate Dressings?

Mar 15, 2026 Leave a message

The Medelast Alginate Dressings are versatile and suitable for a wide range of wound types, including:

  1. Chronic Wounds: Such as diabetic ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, and pressure sores.
  2. Acute Wounds: Including trauma injuries, surgical incisions, and donor sites.
  3. Infected Wounds: Their absorption and barrier properties help reduce bacterial load.
  4. Cavity Wounds: The flexible nature of the dressing allows it to conform to deep or irregularly shaped wounds.
  5. Burns: Particularly second-degree burns with significant exudate.

These dressings are not recommended for dry wounds or wounds with minimal exudate, as their effectiveness relies on fluid interaction.
