The Medelast® Alginate dressing is a natural wound dressing; it is composed with highly absorbent alginate fiber which is derived from seaweed. This dressing is best used on wounds that have a large amount of exudates, and may used on full-thickness burns, surgical wounds, split-thickness graft donor sites, mohs surgery defects, diabetic foot ulcer, refractory decubiti, and chronic ulcers etc. they can also be applied onto dry wounds after normal saline is first applied to the site of application.
When the alginate dressing touch with the effusion, it can be turn into a soft, sticky, wet alginate gel, similar like hydrogel dressing, it can keep wound moisture not easily lost quickly, provide moist healing environment for the wound surface.
It can absorb a large amount of fluid on the wound surface, effective to the wound surface to form and maintain a moist environment, promote wound healing, with non-adhesion to the wound, can reduce he injury of secondary treatment and relieve the pain of the wound, reduce the scars of the wound after healing
